The Journal of Anatomical Sciences (JAS) is owned and managed by the U.P. Chapter of the Anatomical Society of India (ASI), established on November 11, 1978, at King George's Medical College, Lucknow. The U.P. Chapter became the second state branch of the ASI, following the initiative of the Medical College of Tamil Nadu during ASI's Silver Jubilee Conference in 1976.

JAS was first published in September 1979 as the official journal of the U.P. Chapter. Its inaugural editorial board was led by Dr. S.P. Tewari (GSVM Medical College, Kanpur), with Dr. Vishram Singh as co-editor. This first issue included four original research articles and the proceedings of the chapter's first annual conference, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of anatomical research in Uttar Pradesh.

JAS continues to be a respected platform for academic research under the stewardship of the U.P. Chapter of ASI.
